Definitions

Throughout these Terms & Conditions, the following terms have the meanings set out below:

• Curio / Agency — Curio Pte. Ltd., UEN 202241934W, a tuition matching agency registered in Singapore.
• Client — the parent or legal guardian who submits a tuition request through Curio.
• Tutor — the individual registered with Curio who is matched to a Client’s request.
• Assignment — a confirmed tuition arrangement between a Client and a Tutor facilitated by Curio.
• Placement Fee — the one-time commission paid to Curio, equivalent to the first lesson’s full fee.
• First Lesson — the first lesson conducted under a confirmed Assignment.

Terms for Clients

Our matching service

Curio’s matching service is provided free of charge to Clients. Clients pay only for lessons conducted, with no agency surcharge added to the tutor’s hourly rate.

Upon receiving a tuition request, Curio will identify suitable tutors and present up to three profiles for the Client’s consideration. The Client may accept a recommended tutor or request alternative profiles.

Confirming an assignment

An Assignment is considered confirmed once the Client has acknowledged the Tuition Confirmation Note sent by Curio via WhatsApp or email. By acknowledging, the Client agrees to these Terms in full.

Placement fee

Upon completion of the First Lesson, the Client is required to pay Curio a one-time Placement Fee equal to the full fee for that lesson.

Payment method

Payment must be made within 3 days of the First Lesson. Curio reserves the right to suspend matching services for Clients with outstanding payments.

GST

Curio Pte. Ltd. is not currently GST-registered. No GST is applicable on the Placement Fee. Subsequent payments made directly to the Tutor are also not subject to GST.

Replacement guarantee

If a Client is not satisfied with a Tutor after the First Lesson, Curio will arrange for a replacement Tutor provided:

• The Client notifies Curio within 24 hours of the First Lesson.
• The Placement Fee for the first Assignment has been paid in full.
• The dissatisfaction is based on reasonable grounds (e.g. mismatch in teaching style, qualifications, or communication).

The replacement guarantee applies once per tuition request. A new Placement Fee will be applicable for the replacement Tutor.

Terms for Tutors

Commission model

Curio charges tutors no upfront registration fees. Our commission is collected indirectly — the Client pays Curio the full fee for the First Lesson. The Tutor does not receive payment for the First Lesson. From the second lesson onwards, the Client pays the Tutor directly at the agreed hourly rate.

Early termination

If an Assignment is terminated by the Client after the First Lesson but before the second lesson, Curio will pay the Tutor 50% of the First Lesson fee as a goodwill payment within 7 business days, provided the Tutor conducted the lesson professionally and in accordance with these Terms.

Tutor obligations

By accepting an Assignment, the Tutor agrees to the following:

1. Conduct all lessons personally and not send any representative on their behalf.
2. Adhere to the agreed rate, schedule, and lesson duration unless mutually agreed otherwise with the Client.
3. Present a valid form of identification (IC, Driving Licence, or Singpass) to the Client at the First Lesson.
4. Conduct themselves professionally and ethically at all times during lessons.
5. Commit to the Assignment for the long term unless a short-term arrangement has been agreed in writing.
6. Notify Curio of any changes to lesson arrangements, frequency, or duration from the second lesson onwards.
7. Not solicit or accept payment from the Client for the First Lesson under any circumstances.

Track record

Curio maintains a record of all completed Assignments, Client feedback, and Tutor conduct. Positive feedback and successful long-term Assignments will improve a Tutor’s priority status for future matches. Repeated cancellations, negative feedback, or conduct in breach of these Terms may result in removal from Curio’s matching platform.

Non-circumvention

Tutors must not privately arrange tuition with Clients introduced through Curio for a period of 12 months without Curio’s knowledge, outside of the Assignment confirmed through Curio. This clause does not restrict continuation of an Assignment already confirmed through Curio.

Payment Terms

From lesson 2 onwards

All payments from the second lesson onwards are made directly between the Client and the Tutor at the agreed rate. Curio is not involved in and takes no commission from these transactions.

Rate changes

Any changes to the agreed hourly rate after an Assignment is confirmed must be agreed in writing between the Client and the Tutor and communicated to Curio.

Late payment

If the Placement Fee is not received within 7 days of the First Lesson, Curio reserves the right to withhold future matching services until the outstanding balance is settled.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Cancellation of the first lesson

• If the Client cancels the First Lesson with less than 4 hours’ notice, the Client is liable to pay 50% of the First Lesson fee to Curio as compensation for the Tutor’s time.
• If the Client cancels with more than 4 hours’ notice, no fee is payable and the lesson will be rescheduled.
• If the Tutor cancels or fails to appear for the First Lesson without valid cause, Curio will arrange for a replacement and the Tutor’s record will be noted accordingly.

Cancellation of subsequent lessons

From the second lesson onwards, cancellation and rescheduling arrangements are between the Client and the Tutor directly. Curio is not responsible for disputes arising from lessons conducted after the First Lesson.

Termination of assignment

Either party may terminate an Assignment at any time by notifying Curio. If the Assignment is terminated after the First Lesson has been conducted:

• The Placement Fee remains payable in full by the Client.
• Curio will pay the Tutor 50% of the First Lesson fee if the lesson was conducted satisfactorily.
• The Client may request a replacement Tutor under the Replacement Guarantee (Section 02).

Limitation of Liability

Curio acts solely as a matching intermediary between Clients and Tutors. Curio does not employ Tutors and is not responsible for the content, quality, or outcomes of lessons conducted.

Curio makes reasonable efforts to verify Tutors’ qualifications and backgrounds as declared during registration. However, Curio does not guarantee the accuracy of any information provided by Tutors and recommends that Clients verify credentials independently where required.

Curio shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or injury arising from lessons conducted between Clients and Tutors, whether on-site or online.

Curio’s total liability in connection with any Assignment shall not exceed the value of the Placement Fee paid for that Assignment.

Data Protection & Privacy

Curio Pte. Ltd. collects, uses, and discloses personal data in accordance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).

Data collected

Curio collects personal data from both Clients and Tutors for the purpose of facilitating tuition matching, including names, contact details, academic information, and lesson records.

How we use your data

• Matching Clients with suitable Tutors.
• Communicating Assignment details and updates.
• Processing invoices and payment records.
• Maintaining a record of completed Assignments and feedback.

Data sharing

Curio shares contact information between Clients and Tutors only upon confirmation of an Assignment and after payment of the Placement Fee. Curio does not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or withdrawal of consent for your personal data at any time by contacting our Data Protection Officer at [email protected]. Withdrawal of consent may affect Curio’s ability to provide matching services.

Governing Law & Contact

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Singapore. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.

Curio reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. The current version will always be available at curio.sg/terms. Continued use of Curio’s services after any amendment constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
